But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:33-34 (NASB)

No Worries

No worries?

Sometimes life does not go as planned. I had planned to homeschool my kids, take my daughter to a well-check doctor appointment, fix dinner, and take Judah to Tae Kwon Do class last night.

My cough got worse Wednesday into Thursday, so the first change to the plans was a late morning appointment for me at my doctor. We got some school work done at home and then took the rest in the car.

At my doctor, he ordered a chest x-ray because I am not getting enough oxygen and he wanted to check for pneumonia. We headed to the urgent care for the x-ray. (No worries, I don’t have pneumonia, just a lot of inflammation.)

Exhausted and Running Late

By that time, we had to grab some fast food to eat on the way to Jasmine’s well check appointment. We arrived two minutes before her appointment. (She is practically perfect in every way, of course.)

Exhausted from being sick and running all over creation, we stopped to pick up my three prescriptions and then went home. I took some of my meds and laid down to rest.

An emergency with the other kid

Ten minutes later, I hear Judah scream in pain from the living room. While practicing his Tae Kwon Do in the living room, his ankle turned under and he heard a crack. When I came in to the room he was sitting on the couch saying his ankle hurt too bad to stand up.

Thinking he was being dramatic, I started going through the motions of moving his foot and asking where it hurt. Well, he wasn’t faking. We arrived at the Cardinal Glennon pediatric emergency room to have an x-ray on his foot after consulting the pediatrician over the phone.

Five hours later…

Judah in a cast

Evidently, when his ankle turned, the ligament jerked the outer bone of the leg, creating a tiny fracture in the growth plate at the ankle. So, Judah gets to live in a cast with zero weight bearing for six weeks.

Calm in the Chaos

Through all of this chaos and disturbance yesterday, things actually remained pretty calm. I can feel that it would be easy to start worrying about the coming days and weeks. Then I remind myself that if my focus is in the right place, I don’t have to worry. No worries.

When you focus on God, you don't have to worry. Bible art journaling entry for Matthew 6

Enough trouble for one day…no worries

Matthew 6 says that there is enough trouble in one day for itself. That was certainly true yesterday. But, when my focus in on God, who is unshakeable, I don’t have to get shaken or in a panic about the things that don’t go as planned.

God is not shocked

There will always be surprises and problems that arise in life, but they are not a shock to God. He has us in the palm of His hand. Hope in the face of obstacles is not irrational when your hope is placed in an almighty God.

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! Psalm 34:1-3

Action Step:

You never know what will happen in a day, but you can know the God who cares for you. Let’s start each day turning our focus to Him. Just take a moment when you wake up and throughout the day to communicate with Him and get our perspective in line with His. I am attaching this to putting in my contacts every morning. When I do that, I will use it as a reminder to place my focus on God. I am putting a reminder on my contact solution and case. You choose what will work for you to remember.

Prayer:

God, You have not forgotten me. You always love me and keep me in your care. Help me to align my perspective with Your desires and thoughts. Even when problems arise, please keep my focus on You. I don’t have to worry about what will come, but can take action with confidence and hope because You are with me. Thank You! In Jesus’ name, amen.
