I have never even been able to draw cartoony type people. I am terrible at proportions and everything, even my stick figures tend to look disfigured. BUT, I am here to testify that when you practice drawing and watch tutorials and read your child’s 1-2-3 Draw book, you can get better. This week’s bible journaling entry for Philippians 3 is a testament to that fact.

If you despair over your artistic or creative abilities, don’t lose heart!

The first thing to remember is that perfection is not the goal – close relationship with God and the internalization of His word is the goal. The journey of creating in the word of God, whether in a bible or journal or crafts, is in itself the destination. This is where we are building a closeness with our heavenly Father.

The second thing to keep in mind is that persistence can yield results. If we don’t give up. If we keep pressing on, even when we are unhappy with the way something turns out. We can steadily improve in our artistic endeavors if we keep on doing them though we aren’t great at it yet.

I am working on this concept with my daughter right now. She has encountered some difficult pieces in her piano lessons and is discouraged, but I keep telling her that if she will not give up, eventually what is hard today will be easy. The same is true in so many areas of life. Lifting weights. Math class, Art. Marriage. Prayer. Bible study.

We are all works in progress. God is not done with us yet and He is not a quitter.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

This life is not a sprint. It is a marathon and we are called to be endurance runners. Eye on the prize. In it to win it.
Run with ENDURANCE. Press on with JOY. FINISH the race.
