4 Lessons from Moving

4 Lessons from Moving

I know I have been MIA from the blog lately. No, I haven’t fallen completely off the map. No, I did not contract some strange disease that keeps me from typing.

I have been moving.

You wouldn’t think that it would take every second of time and every bit of energy you possess simply to move from one house to another…but it does.

2 Households

To make it even more crazy, we were packing up and moving 2 (count ‘em – 2!) households. My in-laws were moving at the same time as us, creating two basements to clear out and homes to pack up.

During the whole process of selling a house and buying another one, of packing up and moving from one place to another, there are plenty of opportunities for doubt, anxiety, and worry. Valleys of disappointment and fear contrasted with high points of joy and excitement.

There are 4 lessons from moving that have really stood out to me.

4 Lessons I have learned from moving:

1. God will supply for all our needs.

Moving is expensive. Especially when you have a buyer for your former home and they back out. Especially when you have things you need to fix on the old house and appliances to buy for the new house. It is easy to start worrying about a buyer for your old house. Then, it is easy to doubt that God will provide for all your needs. Even when you know that God has been leading you to the move, it is easy to forget to trust His hand.

And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (CSB)

But we know from the Bible that God will supply for all our needs. He has everything under control even when we don’t see the answers. Everything on earth is His. He has the resources to care for us at every point in our lives. In addition, He loves us so much that He will care for us.

Casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 (CSB)

We have to trust His hand and His plan for us.

2. God has abundant blessings in store for us.

While we are worrying about simply having our needs met, God wants to bless us abundantly. Not just life, but abundant life.

We need to focus not on what we lack (a buyer for an old house, provision and blessing moving into the new house). God has good things in store for us. We simply need to trust.

A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance. John 10:10 (CSB)

3. We can have peace and joy during the process because we trust God.

Our circumstances don’t always fill us with peace and joy. Often they may fill us will feeling of overwhelm, stress, fear, and doubt. It is God who can fill us with all joy and peace, because He alone is the God of hope!

Hope for a future in the new place. Hope for the promises of God fulfilled in our lives. When we don’t see how it will all work out, we can trust Him to fill us with the joy and peace of hope in Him.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (CSB)

4. God will not give up before the end of the whole process.

We can start the whole moving process with confidence that God is leading and guiding us. Somewhere along the way, we may lose sight of that assurance, but God has not lost sight of us.

We need to trust that He will not give up halfway through the process. He will carry it all the way to completion. We are not there yet, but we are trusting.

Our old house has not sold yet. We do not have all the financial answers yet. But you know what? God does. He knows who will buy the old house. He knows where the money will come from to provide for not only all our needs, but also the blessings He has in mind for us.

God is our true Real Estate Agent. Our Banker. Our Provision. Our Source. Our Blessing. Our Hope. Our Future.

God is our true Real Estate Agent. Our Banker. Our Provision. Our Source. Our Blessing. Our Hope. Our Future.

And He will never give up on us.

I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 (CSB)

Action Step:

If you are in a time of uncertainty today, whether or not you are physically moving, you can trust these 4 lessons from moving.

1. God will supply all our needs.
2. God has abundant blessings in store for us.
3. We can have peace and joy during the process because we trust God.
4. God will not give up before the end of the whole process.

God knows exactly where you are right now: physically, emotionally, spiritually…He has not lost track of you. Even if you are surrounded by mounds of boxes or just feel like you are drowning in the struggles of life.

Today, let’s take a moment to thank Him that He is not done with us yet!

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you that you never give up on us. Thank you for the blessings that you have for us that we would not have dreamed possible on our own. Please work on our behalf, help us to have peace and joy during the journey. We trust You! In Jesus’ name, amen.
