White as Snow - December Devotions and Doodles - Day 21 (December 21)

December Devotions and Doodles – Day 21 (December 21)

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 1:16-18

16 “Wash yourselves. Cleanse yourselves.
Remove your evil deeds from my sight.
Stop doing evil.
17 Learn to do what is good.
Pursue justice.
Correct the oppressor.
Defend the rights of the fatherless.
Plead the widow’s cause.

18 “Come, let us settle this,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are scarlet,
they will be as white as snow;
though they are crimson red,
they will be like wool.”

December 21 Devotional: White as Snow

I grew up in Texas. Not just Texas, Southeast Texas. That corner between the Gulf of Mexico and Louisiana – think somewhat swampy, very humid – basically two seasons: hot and hotter.

Now, I live in the midwest, near St. Louis, and one of the things I love the best about this area is that there are four distinct seasons. I am still delighted when white fluffy snowflakes begin to fall and cover everything in sight.

Christmas is not just about a Baby

I know there was no snow in Bethlehem when Jesus was born, but we now associate the Christmas Season with the snow and cold, especially here in the middle of the United States.

And it is kind of appropriate, because Christmas is not just about the Baby Jesus. It is also about Who the Baby Jesus grew up to become.

The Amazing Grown-Up Jesus

Grown-up Jesus did the most amazing thing for us. We were stained with sin, like a dirty, muddy field. Jesus died so we could have forgiveness for our sins and be washed as white as snow.

Isaiah 1:18 Quote

Snow Covered Sins

The snow came down and covered the muddy, dirty field until the sins are erased and all that can be seen is the bright, pure white snow. But that is not the end of the story. The snow melts and becomes one with the soil, then Spring brings new life growing from that well-watered soil.

Abundant Life

Grown-up Jesus came to bring us new life  that is full of abundance and joy.

A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance. John 10:10

December 21 – Action Step:

Today (December 21), embrace that abundant life Jesus came to give us. If you have not accepted that gift of salvation and asked Him for forgiveness, I would love to help you out. Please send me a message at amanda@devotioninaction.com or comment below and I will get back with you.

If you have accepted the gift of salvation, live life today with a grateful heart and step into that abundance!

Prayer:

Dear God,  Wash us white as snow. Help us to find the joy and abundance in our lives through Jesus.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
