Week 5: Wisdom 5: Proverbs 12:15 – Listen Podcast Microphone
“The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” Proverbs 12:15
It Seems Right
Sometimes I look at choices other people make and wonder how they could possibly be doing the things that they are choosing to do. I’m sure that sometimes people look at me and think the same thing. However, it is very rare that people make choices while thinking that they are doing the wrong thing. No, in my head (and everyone else’s) I convince myself that I am in the right. I listen to the voices that agree with me and ignore the warning signs that I might be wrong.
Wisdom listens
As we learned last week, wisdom spends less time speaking and more time listening. Fools think their way is right, but the wise don’t assume that. They listen to the advice of people who are wiser and more experienced than themselves. The wise don’t see themselves as wise. A sign that someone is wise is that they recognize they have lots of room to grow.
Podcast society
When I read this verse, I thought about podcasts. I thought about how a lot of people I know like to listen to podcasts. Many of them think of the podcaster as an expert, but that is not always the case. Sometimes they can be used by God to share righteous wisdom…but not always. We need to be careful who we listen to in podcasts and in person.
Prayerful Listening
While listening to advice, we need to be covering everything in prayer and LISTENING to the one voice that absolutely knows the right answer. Answers that make us feel good are not always true. They can seem right to us and still not be godly.
Wisdom in the Word Week 5 ACTION STEP:
God is broadcasting. Today, we need to create some space to listen. Time to think about decisions that seem right to us and ask if God says that they are right for us. Only fools are convinced they are always right. The wise ask God for confirmation.

Wisdom in the Word Week 5 PRAYER:
Dear God, Please keep us from the way of fools. Help us to walk in wisdom and listen to You speaking to us through your Word and Your people. Give us discernment to know the voices to listen to. In Jesus’ name, amen.
