Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15

Gift of God – 2 Corinthians 9:15 (December 12)

Today is my daughter’s birthday. She turns sixteen today and it has me thinking about when she was born. We decided to name her Jasmine Diane because of its meaning. Jasmine can mean either “Gift of God” or “a sweet fragrance”. Diane means “Of the Divine”. A sweet fragrance of the Divine. A gift from God Himself. And she is!

Kind, generous, beautiful, graceful, and talented – Jazzy is a gift to our family. However, she is not the first gift God ever gave us. He has given countless gifts – the greatest of which is the Gift of Jesus! Through His sacrifice on the cross, we are restored to right relationship with our Creator.

Relationship broken by sin

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

We are all sinners who need a Savior to enter the presence of the Holy God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23

But God…

But God loves us so much that He sent us the best Gift of all! He sent us Jesus to save us. We can accept His Gift joyfully and share it with others this season.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17

Candy Canes

Candy canes are Christmas candy because of this meaning! We are dirty with sin. Jesus shed his red blood to pay for our sin. When we accept His gift, our spirits are cleaned and made as white as snow. Red and white intertwined in the shape of a shepherd staff for the “Good Shepherd.”
