The Name of Jesus – HOPE Challenge Day 8

““Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.”” Matthew 12:18-21

This passage is a description of Jesus by the prophet Isaiah that is quoted in Matthew. I love what this says about the Savior. Jesus.

He is chosen, loved, delighted in. “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Romans 8:17 We are co-heirs with Christ and also chosen, loved, and delighted in.

God’s Spirit is upon Him.

“Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

The Spirit of God is also in us.

He will proclaim justice to the nations.

“Mankind, he has told each of you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

We are charged in Micah 6:8 to “do justly”, sometimes translated “do justice.” We are to walk out Christ’s proclamation of justice on the earth.

Jesus didn’t squawk and scream and argue with everyone. He simply and powerfully brought justice through His victory over sin and death.

Hope in His Name

Because Jesus is all of these things, the nations will put their hope in His Name.

”For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth— and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

There is power in the name of Jesus. This name is above any other name. The whole nations of the earth can put their hope in His name. We can too!

We share in the blessings of Jesus but also are charged with a mission on earth. We can accomplish this mission because we can ask for help in the name of Jesus. His name has power. His name is victory. His name brings hope.
