Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to him. Hebrews 13:16

Lent Day 24 - Hebrews 13:16

Trouble Remembering

I don’t know about you, but life keeps getting faster and faster for me! As a result, I have more and more trouble remembering things. I have to be really intentional and write everything down. And still sometimes things fall through the cracks.

The important stuff

The thing is that the really important stuff I always remember to write down. Taxes, bills, going to work, etc. never get missed because I deem it so important that I write down reminders and keep coming back to it.

Then, how much more should I write down reminders to do the things that God instructs me to in the Bible? How often am I really intentional about writing down a reminder to do God’s will?

God’s reminder

Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to him. Hebrews 13:16

God gives us a reminder in this verse from Hebrews. He says, “Don’t forget!”

What does He deem so important?

To do good and share with those in need. What? This feels so basic, like a lesson from Kindergarten. However, once we get past childhood, do we really remember to intentionally do good things for other people and to share with those in need.

Most of the time, I wait until a need pops up in front of me AND it is very convenient for me to give to those people in need. I will be very honest – most of the time, if it is inconvenient or costs me too much, I don’t do it.

Make the effort

I need to make the effort to do good and share with others, because this is how people see the love of God in me. Not in my words, but in my actions.

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18 (ESV)

Do good and share with others like Jesus

We know Jesus loves us by His actions, which were neither convenient nor comfortable for Him. He shared His very life to help us (the ones in need). Giving like that is extremely pleasing to God. I want to be more like Jesus in my daily life.

Action Step:

Our Focus today is GIVING TO OTHERS!

Giving to Others: Offering our money, time, or talents to help those in need. Finding some way to enrich the lives of others and think of other people rather than yourself.

Today, let’s start being more intentional about giving to others. Let’s make a plan and write down a reminder to do good and share with those in need. Think of a specific way that you can help someone today and write it down on your calendar (or put a reminder in your phone).

Let’s get to giving like Jesus today – do good and share with those in need!

Prayer:

Dear God, You always do good and share with us. Help us to be intentional about doing good and sharing with others. Thank You for this reminder for us to set reminders to do Your will in giving to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
