Marvelous Works - Psalm 96:1-3

Marvelous Works – Psalm 96:1-3

“Sing a new song to the Lord;

let the whole earth sing to the Lord.

Sing to the Lord, bless his name;

proclaim his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the nations,

his wondrous works among all peoples.” Psalm 96:1-3

My Second Entry

Last week, I shared with you my first entry for the Bright Bible – Taller Faith (Hebrew 11). This week, I want to give you a peek into my second entry in the Old Testament, in Psalm 96:1-3. I wanted to draw my favorite flower for this entry – a magnolia!

Symbol of the South

I am from Southeast Texas and love magnolias. In fact, I had magnolias as the flowers that decorated my wedding 21 years ago (My anniversary is this month!). Magnolia trees with their gorgeous, large blossoms are one of the most beautiful symbols of the South.

Hospitality begins at home

Seeing them always reminds me of sweet tea, front porches, long conversations, and always having time to help a neighbor in need. My parents are the living embodiment of the idea of hospitality. They can put on a spread for dozens of people at a moment’s notice, or cater a party for hundreds without breaking a sweat. The coffee pot is always on and the front door is open so friends and neighbors can come on in and sit a spell.

Marvelous Magnolia

As awesome as they are, even my mom and dad could not create the beauty of a magnolia bloom. Only the Creator God could come up with the incredible design in the velvety white petals of the magnolia flower. And my favorite flower is a tiny part of the wondrous works of our God.

The Works of God

He lavished His grace on us through Jesus. His spirit empowers us to live a holy life and prepares us for eternity with Him. His Word gives us wisdom and direction for daily life.

Shout it Out

With all the marvelous things God has done, we should shout it to the rooftops – declare His amazing acts to the nations of the world.

“Declare his glory among the nations,

his wondrous works among all peoples.” Psalm 96:3

Sing out

I’ll admit that I am a singer, so when I think of worshipping God, of extolling His virtues, a song rises in my heart. But, I am obviously not the only one…

“Sing a new song to the Lord;

let the whole earth sing to the Lord.

Sing to the Lord, bless his name;

proclaim his salvation from day to day.” Psalm 96:1-2

Bible art journaling entry for Psalm 96 - Magnolia

So, from now on, whenever I see a magnolia, I am going to let it remind me to sing of the marvelous works of the Lord. I will be spurred on to tell others of all He has done for me!

Action Step:

Let the beauty of God’s creation remind you to sing and shout about the glory of God and all His marvelous works. Take a few minutes today to look at God’s creation around you and praise Him for all His blessings.

Just a few minutes enjoying the clouds, the trees, a freshly cut lawn, running water, or gazing at the blossom of a delicate flower, can bring rest to our souls and redirect our focus onto the marvelous works of God instead of our problems and obstacles.

Prayer:

Dear God, Draw our attention to the amazing works You have done in our world and in our lives. Spur our hearts on to worship You. Remind us to take a moment each day to let your creation cause us to bless Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
